Responsive Design
Authored By: Stacey McKee on 4/15/2014

Responsive Design is the concept of developing a website design in a manner that allows the lay out to change according to the user’s computer, tablet, and smartphone screen resolution.

Three important things to consider:

·         Flexible or Fluid Grids

·         Flexible Images

·         Media Queries

Flexible Grids is a concept in which the elements of your site are resized, rearranged or removed.  Instead of using fixed widths in pixels, flexible grids use percentage units to recalculate an element’s proportions accordingly.  As the browser width changes, flexible grids will resize and reposition the content as necessary.

Adjusting images in responsive web design is crucial.  You can resize the image on the fly, or dynamically crop the image. By combining both methods you are enabling the image to resize automatically when it’s below a specific screen size.
